Step 1: How to measure for a curtain pole or track
Where you position your curtain pole makes a big difference to the overall effect of your window dressing. It will also impact the curtain measurements, so, before you begin, ensure your curtain pole or track is correctly positioned.
- Height placement: The pole or track should be positioned 10-20cm above the window frame to create an illusion of height.
- Width extension: Extend the track or pole 15-30cm beyond each side of the window frame. This allows the curtains to stack back without obstructing the window, maximising natural light. If using a curtain pole, measure the width between the finials (decorative ends), excluding the finials themselves.
