Velvet is the next most luxurious upholstery fabric you can get. It is soft to touch, comes in many rich colours and is an effortlessly elegant fabric for adding luxe into your home - which is why we love it. It also comes in natural or synthetic variities, the latter being more durable than the natural fibre version. The good news is that velvet's price has come down as it's come into the mainstream, so it's probably not as pricey as you're expecting. Keeping it clean; you'll need to treat it with great care to keep it looking as good as new or get added fabric protection.
Our Favourite Natural Upholstery Fabrics
Cotton. Soft comfortable and durable, it's no wonder that cotton is one of the most popular upholstery fabrics you can choose. We love it because of its versatility; it can be dyed almost any colour, it is hypoallergenic, it's resistant to wear and tear, and most cotton upholstery can be cleaned with soap and water. Plus, there are many different cotton grades available to suit almost any budget.

Linen is a natural fibre made from flax and one of the strongest materials you can choose. It's eco-friendly and affordable so it's a popular choice as a fabric for upholstery. Like cotton, linen upholstered furniture tends to be very comfortable and thanks to its natural sandy colour it can fit seamlessly into many homes. There are some cons too; linen can soil and wrinkle easily. So we recommend using it for casual spaces rather than the more formal parts of your home.

Polyester had to make it into our list because it combnes the best of both worlds; comfort and ease. This popular microfibre was introduced into lives in the 1950's, since then its appeal with the public has never really warned. It is easy to clean, soft and smooth, attractive looking and resistant to pilling and fading. Not to mention the fact that it is available in a huge range of colours and patterns, so you're sure to find polyester upholstery fabric that matches your interior theme perfectly.
Wool
Wool has been a favourite for millennia - but even in modern times, this comforting traditional fibre boasts properties that make it an ideal upholstery fabric. As well as resisting wrinkles and holding shape, wool is naturally resistant to mould and mildrew - while its anti-static, flame-resistant and easy-to-clean qualities make for an upholstery fabric that takes day-to-day family life in its stride. Plus, with our selection of striking and stylish patterns, it;s the perfect choice for curtains and blinds.
Chenille
Chenille might be the French for 'caterpillar' - so called because of its distinctive fuzzy pile - but this popular upholstery fabricis far more stylish than the name suggests! Arriving in the 18th century, this relative newcomer to the textiles family is ideal for snug bedspreads, or as a soft covering for chairs and sofas. Chenille is famously durable, but do keep an eye on the care insructions to aavoid stretching and shrinkage. Whatever you make with chenille, be sure to place your new addition near natural light, as this upholstery fabric has a stunning iridescent quality that makes it come alive.
